Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) defines itself as the world's largest Jewish organization standing in solidarity with Palestine. In fact, JVP is an extremist group that manipulates the Jewish identity of some of its members to support terror, disrupt public life, and undermine the very essence of Jewish faith, identity and tradition.
Here are 10 things you should know:
As an anti-Zionist organization, JVP opposes the existence of a Jewish state in any part of historic Israel. Anti-Zionism rejects the principle of two states for two peoples, instead demanding that Israel must relinquish its Jewish character. By insisting on a resolution that is non-negotiable for one party and existentially threatening to the other, anti-Zionism moves beyond the realm of compromise and, in effect, becomes pro-war.
JVP has called for the “death of Israel” and supports a “Free Palestine by any means necessary.” After the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, JVP declared, “our solidarity with Palestine must encompass any and all modes of resistance,” and stated, “We stand in full solidarity with Palestinian resistance.” JVP National has never publicly disassociated from these statements.
JVP has a long history of praising terrorists responsible for the murder of innocent civilians.
On the night of October 7th, while rockets were falling on Israeli cities and Hamas terrorists were still inside of Israel’s borders, Jewish Voice for Peace mobilized to end defense aid to Israel.
Despite their claims to represent Jewish values, polling shows that JVP’s views are far from mainstream, with 85% of Jewish Americans supporting Israel’s right to exist and defend itself.
Because Jewish Voice for Peace is so fringe in the Jewish community, the group recruits non-Jewish members to grow their ranks. Some JVP chapters have been founded by non-Jews, while other chapters are at least 50% non-Jewish. While JVP insists it is a Jewish organization, and has asked members if they are Jewish, it refuses to release data on the Jewish makeup of the organization.
JVP states that it exists to respond to a Palestinian call to separate Judaism from support for Israel—and specifically to defend anti-Israel groups from charges of antisemitism—effectively siding with entities that promote hate against Jews.
JVP’s radical views and actions are a threat to both Jewish unity and public safety. Their history of violent demonstrations and the potential for future disturbances in public life raises concerns for civic order and security.
JVP has faced legal action for disrupting public events, including illegal demonstrations, traffic blockages and protests. JVP spent nearly $700,000 of its donors' money settling fraud allegations.
JVP directly challenges the sacred tenets of Judaism, including arguing that Jews should avoid Hebrew prayers and deny their the deep connection with Israel, which is central to Jewish faith and identity.
